FIRST --- FIRST WEBSITE

An organization founded by Dean Kamen in 1989 for the purpose of inspiring young minds to pursue careers in science and technology. FIRST stands for "For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology"

Chairman's Award

The most prestigious award in FIRST. Winners are teams that show gracious professionalism in all that they do and have taken steps to help and inspire people in their community.

Regalith

A special material used to simulate the surface of the moon. Used for the playing field in the 2009 game, Lunacy.

Autonomous

Period of competition where robots move based only on their programming. They recieve no input from human drivers.

Teleoperated

Period of competition where robots recieve directions from human drivers using wireless communication.

Pneumatic --- Image

Type of device that utilizes high levels of air pressure to accomplish a task.

Mechanum Wheels --- Image

Special wheels that have rollers at 45 degrees to allow horizontal movement when wheels are rotated a certain way.
